‘My painting is very traditional in it’s influences but with an inevitable contemporary feel to the finished work.

The style of painting is also based on traditional techniques; building up the painting with many glazes of translucent colour to achieve depth of tone and luminosity. Each painting consists of between twenty to thirty layers.

For this reason I like to use fast drying media that work well in thin washes, particularly acrylic and egg tempera, and occasionally oils using a fast drying medium. I think of acrylic as a modern form of the more ancient tempera.

The detailed aspect of this way of painting is very painstaking and involves considerable time and concentrated work. The paintings are produced on prepared panels, board or watercolour paper’.
