Born in Nottingham City Centre in 1958, Roy's artistic journey began under the influence of his father, a long-distance lorry driver, and his mother, a skilled lace maker. The cobbled streets of his childhood were the backdrop to his early passion for painting and drawing, especially the majestic imagery of Galleon ships.
When Roy's family moved to Atherstone, a charming market town, he found new inspiration in nature. He spent his free time exploring fields and hedgerows, studying everything from flora and trees to rocks and wildlife. Roy's art evolved during his apprenticeship in painting and decorating, where he learned colour theory, design, and specialist finishes.
His talent for sign-writing emerged, becoming his primary source of income. As the brewing industry changed and the demand for hand-painted signs declined, Roy adapted by creating murals for children's bedrooms, hotel-themed rooms, and playful spaces across England and Europe. His recent murals at Father Hudson's Care Homes in Coleshill exemplify his commitment to bringing joy through art.Roy has also held two successful exhibitions, one at the Atherstone Anglia Building Society and the other at Riversley Park Gallery, Nuneaton.
