Ed Chapman’s newest mosaic pays tribute to James Hunt, the electrifying force who first drew him into the world of Formula 1. Crafted entirely from original vinyl records, the portrait reimagines Roberto Bunge’s iconic photograph through Chapman’s precise, angular mosaic technique, a style defined by sharp geometry, tonal discipline, and meticulous hand‑cut detail.

Embedded throughout the artwork are records from 1976, the year Hunt claimed his World Championship title. Their presence adds a layer of historical weight and material authenticity, transforming the piece into both a portrait and an artefact of the era. The choice of vinyl feels particularly fitting; Hunt’s rebellious, rock‑and‑roll spirit is echoed in the medium itself, creating a work that celebrates not only the driver, but the cultural energy he embodied.
