The Maypole
Frank writes in his book 'A Brush With Life', " In 1954 Doris and I bought a house in The Maypole, Birmingham. We saved for adeposit, and also had some help from Doris's father. It was a lovely place then, like a village, still outside Birmingham itself, quiet with little family shops. There was even a blacksmith. The fields started at the end of our road. I'm still in the same house, but things have changed a bit. The main road is a motorway, and most of the shops have become part of supermarkets.
